Birds May 2008
A few days before the male rose-breasted grosbeaks, I missed by about two seconds snapping a picture of a black-headed grosbeak feeding on our deck, rare this far east. It heard my lens whirr and flew off. For some reason the female rose-breasted grosbeaks, much plainer, showed up the week following the males. My camera was always out of place for taking their pictures. We did have a young male blue grosbeak show up on our deck; I missed him too, but since they live here, I got this picture of a mature male on the nearby road.
