Christview Ministries Email Update, November 22, 2010

Checking things out before deciding?

The February 2010 winter visitor above is closely examining the Christview multi-purpose room which serves for studying, worshiping, praying, playing, feasting, fasting, planning, viewing video presentations, and more, not to mention taking pictures of the occasional visitor looking through the window.

Maybe this email update will help you decide

that it is time to make haste to Christview!

We Are Completing Our Sixth Year of Ministering Through Christview!

In 2010, Christview Ministries has hosted over 200 individual or family sessions of spiritual direction and Bible mentoring. We have hosted 7 group spiritual retreats at Christview Ministries Center and sponsored 2 group silent retreats at nearby Little Portion Retreat Center. We have welcomed 15 people who came to Christview Ministries Center for multi-day individual spiritual retreats. Among them were a young missionary concluding a term of service, a minister on Sabbatical, people seeking God’s guidance for the future, and people in difficult life situations needing rest and renewal--all seeking to grow closer to God.

At First Christian Church of Berryville, John and Judy have offered teaching, preaching, counseling, visioning, planning, and administrative leadership for a church now touching the lives of many unchurched persons with the love, grace, truth and transforming power of Jesus Christ. Scott and Amanda Frame, some of our first Christview students and FCC’s youth pastors, are central to the church’s outreach. Our Wednesday night activities have grown over the past three years from zero to a recent peak of 69. The youth meeting is evolving toward a mixed age evangelistic worship service, and the children’s program is growing too. Two teenagers have recently each reported leading someone to the Lord. Our joy is to find ourselves in that series of links by which people are being drawn closer to Christ. We have frequently experienced that joy this past year.

JOHN AND JUDY TURNER SERVE AS BIBLE TEACHER AND PREACHER FOR CHRISTMOUNT WEEK,

at Christmount Conference Center, Black Mountain, North Carolina

John traced thematic threads stretching from Genesis through Revelation that show God’s plan for “The Calling and Empowering of the Church,” and Judy preached on related themes from the first four chapters of The Acts of the Apostles. A pastor wrote to his congregation, “John led an in-depth Bible study like none I have ever heard.” Several leaders from a congregation going through a difficult situation made an appointment with Judy and came to important conclusions, expressing deep gratitude for Judy’s help in their listening to God.

Some comments from the evaluation forms of Christmount Week:

"The speakers have been outstanding."

"The organization and high quality of John and Judy's presentations were my favorite part of Christmount Week."

"John and Judy were the most inspirational speakers I have ever heard at Christmount!"

Glimpses of Glory, a photo essay by John

Around the spring and autumn equinoxes, from the rural Eureka Springs mailbox of Christview Ministries Center, we can on a clear day look across the King's River Valley and see the sun rising over the distinctive hills that mark Berryville on the horizon. I assure you that the real scene is far more glorious than this photo can convey. Some days, the glory is beyond taking in, no matter how deeply I spontaneously inhale. I cannot imagine why I do not time my arrival at the mailbox to glimpse it each day.

There are constant glories to behold in this creation. The evening of September 27, as Judy and I ate supper, looking across the Keel's Creek Valley, we saw monarch butterflies passing overhead on their migration to Mexico. As sundown was nearing, we grabbed a camera and headed out to see if any of the intrepid fluttering pilgrims would choose to spend the night at Christview. Sure enough, some of them picked the southeast side of an oak tree, bordering our power line as it comes off C.R. 309.

The next morning I waited for the sun to get full light on the tree and caught a few sluggard monarchs still in bed, waiting for the warmth to strengthen their wings for flight.

But those lie-a-beds were one-by-one, stretching and mounting up with wings like...well, like monarchs, rulers of the earth, riding upon the winds toward their far-off goal.

Actually, Judy and I founded Christview in order to see such glimpses of glory in our guests and among those to whom and with whom we minister. Our founding text is 2 Corinthians 3:18: "And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another...."

The source of the transforming glory is described in 2 Corinthians 4:6: "For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ."

Look to Jesus and glimpse the glory!

2010 Finances

For 2009, a flurry of late in the year giving put us in the black. 2010 got off to a slow start, but, by this time in the year, our regular monthly giving is the best it has ever been. Nonetheless, to make up for the slow start this year, we will need a flurry of giving similar to 2009’s to end in the black. If you can include Christview in your end of the year giving, it would be most helpful to the continuing development of our ministries.

Our most recent check from GoodSearch/GoodShop was over $59.00. That reminds me to use GoodSearch/GoodShop more often. It does mount up.

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

There is no way that we can express how grateful we are that your prayer support and financial support allow us to minister in such exciting ways for Jesus Christ. Know that you are appreciated from the depths of our hearts and minds!
